AAJLJ Statement on Nomination of Judge Merrick Garland

March 30, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (“AAJLJ”), in recognition of the critical importance of a Supreme Court with a full complement of Justices to the effective administration of law and justice, urges the United States Senate to promptly undertake its constitutional role of fairly considering the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland, and then advising on, and, if it so determines, consenting to, the nomination.

The AAJLJ was founded in 1983 and is affiliated with the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (“IAJLJ”).  The IAJLJ was founded in 1969 by the late Justice Arthur J. Goldberg of the United States Supreme Court, the late Justice Haim Cohen of the Supreme Court of Israel, and René Cassin, French Nobel Laureate and author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  The AAJLJ is the voluntary bar association of American Jewish lawyers.
